Enrichment Activities at Southgate Residence
Enjoy an Active Retirement
Our full-time Recreation Coordinator ensures that there’s never a dull moment for residents of Southgate. The following are just a few samples of activities that are planned for the enjoyment and stimulation of our residents.
Residents Monthly Meetings
– our Residents Residents’ Meeting Council gives
residents and their families a say in life at Southgate
Fun and Fitness – a critical component of our daily schedule, these activities help residents maintain mobility and strength
Music and Entertainment – whether it’s a sing-along or movie night, our residents are delighted by the opportunity for merriment
Continuing Education – we welcome various community groups into Southgate Residence to provide presentations on topics such as the aging process and Alzheimer’s Disease
Community Outings – whether shopping or going to a concert, residents look forward to outings into the community to explore, socialize and feel more connected to the outside world
Crafts – there is always something exciting being created in our bright craft room, from exquisite oil and water colour paintings to lovingly created children’s items, which are sent overseas to those in need
Spiritual Gatherings – various churches and fellowship groups in our community visit weekly to provide services for our residents
Intergenerational Program – young people from our local Youth and Family Network are partnered with residents to play games, read or carry on a lively conversation
Gardening Club – residents enjoy nurturing the flowerpots around the residence and exercising their green thumbs in our raised garden bed, where they grow vegetables
ROMEO Club (Retired Older Men Eating Out) –
a socializing opportunity
for the gentlemen of the home to get together for a
meal, share stories and have some fun.
Resident Kitchen –
in the activity room kitchen, the residents can bake,
cook or create that special meal or dessert they enjoyed
making for their family. It is also an opportunity for
resident to get to know each other better while baking
bread or preparing Christmas cookies.
– what better way to get to know your neighbours than
playing a friendly game of shuffleboard, trying to sink
your ball on the putting green or scoring the most
points in a word search game.
– the knitting and crotchet needles are flying fast and
furious at Southgate. Club members choose various
charities to donate to and create beautiful afghans,
baby blankets, hats, mittens and gloves and so much
– Annual Summer BBQ, Christmas Party and Christmas
Bazaar. The staff and residents look forward to these
events where everyone has a good time. Music, food and
lots of laughs, just one of the many ways residents,
their family and friends and the staff at Southgate
share good times.
– from Mardi Gras to Rocking to the 50’s to Halloween,
theme days allow both residents and staff to share in
the fun with good food, music, games and costumes.
