They have experienced The Great Depression, wars, economic hardships and raising large families, and yet they have maintained independence, family ties and strong values. Now as they age, they must adjust to relying on others after they have spent years of care-giving. At Southgate, we believe that each resident is to be respected, valued and given as much independence as possible. A hug, a kind word or a memory from the past from our residents makes coming to work a joy for me, and helps keep my life in perspective."

"I enjoy being a cook in Southwestern Ontario because of all the fresh fruits and vegetables that we are able to incorporate into our daily menus. The residents love to hull strawberries, snap beans and husk corn. They often share their own recipes, which enhance our efforts to create a home-like atmosphere. My job as Food Service Supervisor challenges me to provide the best home-cooked meals, using the freshest products, while meeting the needs of all residents. The reward is in developing relationships with each resident on a daily basis."
